Guitarist Mark Heylmun: “I Don’t Mind The Way That Suicide Silence Is Currently Being Portrayed In The Media…”

Heylmun also agrees with what vocalist Eddie Hermida says 99% of the time.

In an Instagram post (posted 3 days ago), Suicide Silence guitarist Mark Heylmun said he doesn’t mind the way that the band are currently portrayed in the media.

“Just [because] it looks a certain way doesn’t mean you know what you’re looking at… I don’t claim to be smart or want people to think I’m a smart dude. All I am is all I am and all you are, to me, is what I believe you to be, and you should know that what I believe you are is not what you are at all.

In the end only you know who you really are and why you do what you do. #wordsalad but it makes sense to me haha again I’m not some scholastic dude I’m a high ass high school dropout who loves life and loves music and being inspired.

I’ve kept my mouth shut for a minute now and I’m sure what I’m about to say is gonna be all over the place in topic… but I’ll just put this here: I don’t mind the way that Suicide Silence is currently being portrayed in the media [because] we asked for it so I’m fine with it and we’ll grow from and be with it.

Do I agree with Eddie Hermida? Yes pretty much 99% of the time. Problem people are having is he’s being full tilt honest and that’s rare for most musicians out there [because] they’re afraid of the kind of flack that comes with that honesty.

So many bands wanna go on an interview and talk shit on us and I wish they did. I’ve always said the best and worst thing about Ed is he is so real he brings it with him everywhere he goes, he can’t fake a thing.

He’s all heart and all passion. But right now the metal media is exploiting our current status and calling us out like they understand us. We could literally take a shit on stage right now and the headline would be ‘Suicide Silence thinks there new record is shit’.

It’s embarrassing to see the media pitting ourselves against other bands, chocking up us smashing already broken gear to having a meltdown, being first to post about Metallica having a technical difficulty at the Grammys, posting about internal struggles amongst bands, and so on.

This isn’t a community anymore it’s every man for himself it seems? Or maybe it’s always been that way and I’m just figuring it out? Again not smart… It’s embarrassing to see that a scene can be so up its own ass that when a band tries something different and doesn’t stick to the program, they’re basically thrown to the wolves.”

Anyone need a stiff drink after reading that? We do!
